DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA: "Sheryl Lee Ralph, Vincent Hughes Host Sit-In for HIV/AIDS Awareness"
Washington Informer (10.02.08):: Mercia Williams-Murray
More than 50 people gathered on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial Saturday for a sit-in to raise HIV/AIDS awareness and lobby the federal government to focus more resources on fighting the disease. Among the participants, who wore red clothes, were actress and HIV activist Sheryl Lee Ralph and her husband, Pennsylvania state Sen. Vincent Hughes (D-Seventh). Hughes and Ralph said that poverty is the determining factor in HIV/AIDS, and Hughes asked participants to inquire about HIV/AIDS resources whenever politicians are campaigning in their communities.
